    UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
    CIVIL AERONAUTICS BOARD
       WASHINGTON, D. C.

Issued Under Delegated Authority
        February 1, 1984

Notice of intent of

     YUKON AIR SERVICE, INC.

to suspend service at five
communities in Alaska, under
section 419 of the Federal
Aviation Act of 1958, as
amended

Docket 41634

                       ORDER EXTENDING SERVICE REQUIREMENT

By Order 83-10-6, dated October 4, 1983, the Board required Yukon Air
Service d/b/a Air North to continue providing essential air transportation at
Birch Creek, Chandalar, Circle Hot Springs, Minto and Wiseman, Alaska, for a
30-day period through December 6, 1983, and initiated a review of the com-
munities' essential air service determinations as a first step of processing,
if needed, a carrier selection case. In accordance with section 419 of the
Act, we have extended the carrier's service obligation for successive 30-day
periods, as necessary, to ensure the continuation of service at these com-
munities while we complete the essential air service cases. The mst recent
extension, through February 4, 1984, was issued by Order 84-1-2, dated
January 3, 1984.

We are awaiting the State's views of the essential air service require-
ments at the five communities.

Since we will not have completed this case prior to the expiration of Air
North's current service obligation, in accordance with the provisions of
section 419 of the Act, we will extend the carrier's service obligation
requirements for an additional 30-day period, through March 5, 1984, or until a
fit, willing and able carrier has been found to be capable of inaugurating and
maintaining reliable essential air service, whichever occurs first.

     ACCORDINGLY,

     I. We require Yukon Air Service, Inc. d/b/a Air North to maintain
essential air service at Birch Creek, Chandalar, Circle Hot Springs, Minto and
Wiseman, Alaska, for an additional period of 30 days from February 5, 1984,
through March 5, 1984, or until a fit, willing and able carrier capable of
providing reliable service inaugurates service meeting the essential air
service requirements, whichever  occurs first;

     2. We direct Yukon Air Service, Inc. d/b/a Air North to retain all books,
records, and other sources and summary documentation, including copies of
interline flight coupons, to support claims for compensation for losses for the
service the carrier is being required to maintain; and
