ORDER EXTENDING REQUIREMENT TO PROVIDE SERVICE

On March 13, 1981, Air Midwest, Inc. filed notices under section 401(j)
of the Act of its intent to reduce its service at Roswell, New Mexico, and
to suspend all of its service at Carlsbad and Hobbs, New Mexico, on June 11,
1981. By Order 81-6-28, dated June 4, 1981, the Board prohibited Air Mid-
west from terminating its service for 30 days, through July 12, 1981, or
until a suitable replacement carrier could be found. In this order the
Board also deferred solicitation of service proposals to replace Air Mid-
west's service until it had decided the essential air service appeals for
Carlsbad and Hobbs. The hold-in requirement was further extended through
August 11, 1981, by Order 81-7-17, July 6, 1981, pending the Board's deci-
sion on the New Mexico essential service appeals.

By Order 81-8-35, August 6, 1981, the Board decided the Carlsbad and
Hobbs appeals and requested that service proposals from carriers interested
in replacing Air Midwest's operations at these points as well as eastbound
from Roswell be filed by September 10. Pending receipt of proposals, we
extended Air Midwest's service obligation at the points for two consecutive
periods, through October 10, 1981, by Orders 81-8-50 and 81-8-159.
