for extension of its Anchorage-Fairbanks
nonstop exemption.



                (IDER EXTENDING EXEMPTION AND DENYING
                    PETITION FOR SBOW CAUSE ORDER


     The Board by Order E-25134, May Ui, 1967, granted Northern Consolidated
Airlines, Inc. (NCA) a temporary exemption to operate a nonstop service be-
tween Anchorage and Fairbanks, Alaska, until October 31, 1967, on a subsidy
ineligible basis. ]/ On September 20, 1967, NCA filed an application seek-
ing (a) the extension of this exemption authority until 60 days after
decision on its certificate application in Docket 17831, ?/or alternately,
(b) the issuance of an order to show cause why such authority should not be
incorporated in its certificate of public convenience and necessity.

     NCA states in support of its application that under its present
exemption it is providing a valuable and profitable service geared primarily
to the local Anchorage-Fairbanks market; that this service has markedly in-
creased its utilization of its F-27 equipment and its Fairbanks station;
that its operations have not adversely affected the existing carrier in the
market, Alaska Airlines, whose service is geared to the long-haul needs of


     .1/ While NCA is certificated to serve both Anchorage and Fairbanks, its
route structure requires a stop at McGrath oa Anchorage-Fairbanks flights.
     2/ NCA's application has been consolidated with those of other carriers
seeking Anchorage-Fairbanks nonstop authority in the Anchorawe-Fairbanka
Service C&e, Docket 18552, which is presently scheduled for hearing in ap-
proximately two months.
