                             FROM

THE ACTING SECRETARY OF WAR,
                          RELATING TO
A FURTHER CREDIT IN THE ACCOUNTS OF MAJ. H. M. ADAMS,
                   UNITED STATES ARMY.

MARcH 12, 1900.-Referred to the Committee on Appropriations and ordered to be
                            printed.

                                      WAR DEPARTMENT,
                                  Washington, .Karch 10, 1900.
SIR: Under date of February 12 ultimo this Department submitted
to the House of Representatives, for the consideration of the Committee
on Appropriations, a recommendation that an item be inserted in the
next general deficiency bill authorizing the proper accounting officers
of the Treasury to credit in the accounts of Maj. H. M. Adams, Corps
of Engineers, U. S. A., the sum of $254.48, standing against him on
the books of the Treasury.
From the papers herewith transmitted it appears that a further dis-
allowance has been made by the accounting officers of the Treasury in
the accounts of Major Adams, and it is therefore recommended that
inasmuch as the additional disallowance in question is made upon the
same grounds as was that of the $254.48 above mentioned, an item be
added in the next general deficiency bill authorizing the accounting
officers of the Treasury to credit in the accounts of Major Adams the
sum of $2,461.66 standing against him on the books of the Treasury,
this last-mentioned item to be in lieu of the one recomimended in
Department letter of 12th ultimo, above referred to.
      Very respectfully,
                                 G. D. MEIKLEJOHN,
                                     Acting Secretary of Tar.
The SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.

GENERAL: By Department letter of November 6, 1899, relative to
suspension of voucher 8 in my accounts for March, 1899, I am directed
to bring the matter to the attention of the Department with a view to
      H. Doc. 98-1
