  SIR: In accordance with the following provision of an item con-
tained in the  Act making appropriations to provide for the expenses
of the government of teDistrict of Columbia for the fiscal year end-
ing June 30, 1905, and for other purposes, approved April 27, 1904,
as follows: for the purpose of ascertaining the amount of Potomac
water used by the Departments and offices of the United States Gov-
ernment in the District of Columbia, by meter or otherwise., three
thousand dollars, the Commissioners of the District of Columbia have
the honor to state that the matter has been investigated and the fol-
lowing tabulated statement of the result of such examination is sub-
mitted to Congress:
