                            FROM

THE SECRETARY OF WAR,

                         TRANSMITTING,
WITH A LETTER FROM THE CHIEF OF ENGINEERS, A REPORT
  RELATING TO THE CONSTRUCTION OF A HIGHWAY BRIDGE
  ACROSS THE POTOMAC RIVER, IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE
  PROVISIONS OF THE ACT APPROVED FEBRUARY 12, 1901.

                  merce and ordered to be printed.

                               Washington, December 14, 1901.
  SIR: I have the honor to transmit herewith a letter, dated Novem-
ber 4 ultimo, from the Chief of Engineers, United States Army, sub-
mitting a report of the Board of Engineers constituted to select a site
and formulate plans, specifications, and estimates for a bridge to be
built across the Potomac River, this city, in accordance with the pro-
visions of section 12 of the act of Congress approved February 12,
1901, entitled-
  An Act To provide for eliminating certain grade crossings on the line of the Balti-
more and Potomac Railroad Company, in the city of Washington, District of
Columbia, and requiring said company to depress and elevate its tracks, and to ena-
ble it to relocate parts of its railroad therein, and for other purposes.
  Concurring in the views expressed by the Chief of Engineers in the
closing paragraph of his letter, the report is submitted for such further
consideration of the subject as Congress may be pleased to bestow, and
for an indication of its wishes in the premises.
