BAKER & FOLSOM
VS.
THE UNITED STATES.
To the Honorable the Judges of the Court of Claims:
The petition of the owners of the brig Edwin H. Fitler,
of the port of Philadelphia, of five hundred and forty-one
(541) tons (registdred tonnage) burden, to wit, Jairus Baker,
owner of fourteen twenty-fourths, Benjamin F. Folsom, of
seven twenty-fourths, and Edmund J. Folsom, of three
twenty-fourths, respectfully showeth unto your Honors:
That heretofore, to wit, on the 27th day of February,
1865, at the city of New Orleans, in the State of Louisiana,
your petitioners were the owners of the brig Edwin H. Fitler,
there lying, whereof J. H. Holmes was master and agent for
the owners, and as such master and agent he entered into a
written contract of charter-party with the United States, by
its duly authorized agent, F. W. Perkins, Captain and
Assistant Quartermaster United States Army, for the use and
services of said brig, then lying at the port of New Orleans,
in the words and figures following, that is to say:
