Reply to the Argument on behalf of the City of
Chicago, that the Appeal lies to the
Appellate Court.
Dec. 15th, 1883, we received a brief from Mr.
Winston, Jr., filed on behalf of the city of Chicago in
which for the first time in this case, the question of the
right to appeal from the trial court directly to this
court, is raised. To that question we have, of course,
the right to reply. The manifest anxiety of the'city of
Chicago to prevent, or if it can not prevent, to post-
pone as long as possible, a decision on the validity
of the liquor licenses it has issued, is highly sugges-
tive. It would seem that of all parties, the city of
Chicago should be most interested to obtain at, the
