          QF  THE CONVENTION TO FORM A CONSTITUTION.

                                               ONJAY         lYay  11   1835.

    The  delegates elected to a convention to form a Constitution having-appeared in tbe Coun-
cil chamber, it was, on motion of John McDonell, of Wayne,
     Resolved, That Chas. W. Whipple, Secretary of the Legislative Qotincil, aca s Secretary
pro tempore.
     The Secretary then proceeded to call the roll furnished by the fiperqtary of the Territory;
when  the following persons appeared, to wit: John Biddle, John Norvell, Johp McDonell, John
R.' Williams, Alpheus White, Amos Steveos, Conrad Ten Eyck, Louis Beaufait, Peter Van
Every, Janathan D. Davis, Caleb Herrington, Ammon Brown, Theophilus E. Tallman, Asa H.
Otis, Charles F. Irwin, William Woodbridge, David White, Edward D. Ellis, Peter P. Ferry,
Robert McClelland, Eliphalet Clark, Samuel Ingersoll, Samuel Colbath, Josephus Y. D. Sutphen,
Ross Wilkins, S. C. Boughton, Allen Hutchins, John Whitney, John J. Adam, Joseph Howell,
Darius Comstock, tilbert Shattuck, Abel Godard, William Moore, Robert Purdy, John Brewer.
Alpheus Collins, Michael P. Stubbs, Richard Brower, Rufus Crossman,' Nathaniel Noble, Russell
Briggs, Orin How, Edward Mundy,  Isaac J. Voorheis, Randolph Manning, Spea Newberry,
Elijah F. Cook, Ebenezer Raynale, Jeremiah.Riggs, Samuel White, Thomas Cyutip, Norman
Davison, Samuel Axford, Ephraim Calkins, Jacob Tucker, John S. Aford, Henry Porter, Ralph
Wadbams,   Roswell Davis, Lewis T. Miller, Isaac E. Crary, Ezra Convis, Lucius Lyon, Win.
H. Welch, 11ezehiah G. Wells, John S. Barry, Hubbell Loomis, Martin G. Shellhouse, Titus B.
Willard, Bela Chapman, Townsend E. Gidley.
    On  motion of Mr. Wilkins, the convention proccedcd to the choice of a president; where-
upon, the following resolution, offered by Mr. Wilkins, was adopted:
     Resolved, That John Biddle, of the county of Wayne, be appointed the presidept of this
convention.
    Messrs. Wilkins and McDoncll having conducted the president to the chair, the oath was
administered by Mr. McDonell; when he addressed the convention.
    On  mot'p of Mr. McDonell, it was
    Resol 7,  That Charles W. Whipple and Marshal J. Bacon be, and they are hereby, ap.
pointed sqcretaries of this convention.
    On  motion of Mr. McDonell,
    Resolved, That Olmsted Hough be, and he is hereby, appointed Sergeant-at-arms.
    On  motion of Mr. Wilkins, it was
    Resoilvd, That the act of the Legislative Council, creating this convention, be read by the
se retary, and prefaced to the minutes of the proceedings.
    On  motion of Mr. Hutchins, it was,
    Resolved, That Thomas  Lee, be, and he is hereby appointed door keeper to the convention.
    On  motion of Mr. Williams,
    Ordered, That a committee of 5 be appointed, to be called  the committee on elections.
    On  motion of Mr. Wilkins, the acting governor was requested to take a seat within the bar
during the session of the convention.
     On motion of Mr. McDonell,
     Ordered, That a committee of 5 be appointed, to report rules for the government of the
convention.
     Messrs. McDonell, Lyon, Wilkins, Crary, Manning, were appointed said committee.
     Ordered, That the credentials of membership be referred to the committee on elections.
     Mr. Norvell offered the following resolutions, which were laid on the table:
     Resolved, That a committee of 5 members be appointed to take into consideration the claim
advanced, and the proceedings commenced and threatened, by the authorities of the State of
Ohio, in relation to the southern boundary of Michigan, and to report a declaration of her rights
and views on that subject.
     Resolved, That the measures adopted by the Legislative Council and Executive of Michigan,
for maintaining the integrity of her territorial limits, the inviolability of her soil, and the exclusive
supremacy  of her laws and jurisdiction in and over the same, meet the cordial approbation of
this convention.
     Mr. Wilkins moved the following, which was adopted:
     Resolved, That the following five standing committees, to consist of seven members each,
be appointed by the president, to be called the committee on the executive; committee on the
legislative; committee on the judiciary; committee on the elective franchise; and the commit-
tee on miscellaneous matters.
     Whereupon, the chair appointed the following, to wit:
     Legislative-Lucius Lyon, John McDonell,  Ezra Convis, Titus       illard, Alpheus
 White, William Moore, John J. Adam.
     Executive Edward  Mundy,  Edward D. Ellis, Isaac . Voorheis, R. Cross
Riggs, John S. Axford, James Newton.
    Judiciary-Ross  Wilkins, William Woodbridge, Allen Hutchins, Randolph Manning, Isame
E. Crary, William H. Welch, Robert McClelland.
