                          HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. I

                          By Representatives Butt, Curcio

                                         and

                                   Senator Hensley

       A RESOLUTION to congratulate Shelley Kirk Lloyd on being inducted into the Columbia
Academy Athletic Hall of Fame.

       WHEREAS, this General Assembly is pleased to specially honor and commend those
citizens who, through unwavering dedication and unflagging commitment to excellence, have
distinguished themselves as exceptional athletes and community leaders of whom we can all be
proud; and

       WHEREAS, one such noteworthy person is Shelley Kirk Lloyd, who was recently
honored with induction into the Columbia Academy Athletic Hall of Fame on October 14, 2016, a
most befitting recognition of her outstanding accomplishments in the arena of sports; and

       WHEREAS, this humbling honor is bestowed on those few extraordinary individuals who
exemplify the highest standards of sportsmanship, ethical conduct, moral character, leadership
in their chosen field and community, and presence on the state and national level; and

       WHEREAS, Shelley Lloyd is a supreme example of all those qualities, having been a
member of Columbia Academy's Class of 1998 and leaving the school with an athletic record of
achievement that few may ever match; and

       WHEREAS, Mrs. Lloyd played three sports as a Lady Bulldog: basketball, softball, and
soccer; and

       WHEREAS, a standout on the soccer pitch, she was named All-Region in 1996 and
1998 and was her team's MVP in 1996; and

       WHEREAS, on the softball diamond, Shelley Lloyd was selected to the All-District team
in 1996, 1997, and 1998 and the All-Mid-State team in 1997 and 1998. She and the Lady
Bulldogs were District Champions in 1994, 1995, 1996, and 1997; were Regional Champions in
1994, 1996, and 1997; and appeared in the State Tournament Final Four in 1997; and

       WHEREAS, individually she was District Player of the Year in 1997 and 1998 and was
the All-State MVP in 1997. She had 297 strikeouts, two perfect games, five no-hitters, ten
shutouts, and a 0.70 ERA in 1998; and

       WHEREAS, Shelley Kirk Lloyd, a woman of true character and commitment, exemplifies
dedication and leadership, and she is admired by her fellow Tennesseans for her tireless efforts
to excel, always guided by solid principles and high standards, whether in the athletic arena or
in the actions of her daily life; now, therefore,

       BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED
TENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE SENATE
CONCURRING, that we join with the family, friends, colleagues, former teammates, former
coaches, and many fans of Shelley Kirk Lloyd in congratulating her upon her induction into the
Columbia Academy Athletic Hall of Fame, commend her for her substantial legacy to her
community, and offer our deep appreciation for the dedication that she has shown our State.

       BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an appropriate copy of this resolution be prepared
for presentation with this final clause omitted from such copy.
