CHAPTER 1.

WNHEREAS it was enacted by the seventh section of the
law of the United States which was passed.on the second day of
August last, entitled, An act to lay and collect a direct tax
within the UniteO1 States, that each state may pay its quota in-
to the treasury of the United States, and that a deduction of fif-
teen per centum should be allowed to each state which should
pay its quota prior to the tenth day of February next, provided
that each state intending to pay, should give notice of such in.
tention to the secretary of the treasury of the United States, one
month prior to the day of payment : Therefore;
SFCT. x. Be it enacted by the senate and house of rep resenta.
tives of the commnon'wealth of Pennsylvania, in general assenbly
