vember, in the year of our Lord one thousand
eight hundred and ninetet en, and in the forty-
fourth year of     the    Independence of the saitd
State.
CHAPTER I.
4n Act t, :r vide a Revenue for thejayment of the civil list and contin-
gent charges of government, for the year 1820.
L .e it enacted by the General dssembly of the State of Tax of 5t4
.Nor~th GCrolina, and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the , Von
same, That for the year 820 there shatl be levied and collect- cry ' t00
ed from all the real property with the improvements thereonValue.
within this state, subject to taxation, the sum of six cents on e-
very hundred dollars value thezeof.
II. Be it further enazcted, That a tax on all Stud Horses and
Jack Asses within this state., of the full sum which the owner
or keeper of such Stud horse or Jack Ass shall ask, demand or  On studT
receive for the season of one warc, shall  e levied, collected horses atI4
and accounted for ; and all Stud horses and Jack Asses whojac s-
are not stationed in any one county, and all those that may he
brought from another state to stand tor a less term than the
season, in this state, shall pay the Sherijf of some county the
amount of the season as soon -as the season of such horse or
jack ass shall commence ; or produce a certificate, front a jus-
tice of the peace ot the county from whenee such horse or jack
ass came (if in this state) that such stud horse or jack ass has
been listed tor taxation ; and it shall be the duty of' the Sheritr
to collect the said tax, and on failure of the owner of such horse
or jack ass to pay the same when demanded, it may be lawful
for the Shoriff to destrain br the same, by seizing the said horse
orjack ass and make sale thereof for the tax.
Ill. .tnd be itffarther entcted, That each and every person who
shall peddle in any couaty in this state, and not on a navigable  t
stream, goods wares or merctandize, not of the growth or mnai-ar..,
utacture of this state, or jewelry, shall pay to the Sheriffof each
