1803 [i] (1803)

handle is hein.ssl/ssms0123 and id is 1 raw text is: Of the session laws for certain early sessions of the general
assembly of Mississippi Territory no'extant copies can be found.
Among the session laws hitherto recorded as lost arc those of the
first session of the second general assembly, December, 1802, to
March, 1803.
Recently, Mr. Moreau B. Chambers, working under. the
direction of Dr. William D. McCain, in the Mississippi Depart-
ment of Archives and History, found three leaves which obvi-
ously formed parts of the session laws of the first session of the
second general assembly.
These leaves were apparently torn from a copy of the ses-
sion laws and used as wrapping paper to bundle up some man-
uscript records. The perpetrator of this damage could have had
little conception of the value which would be set upon this
volume today!
With Dr. McCain's permission I was permitted to photo-
graph these leaves. There here follow photographic contact prints
of these negatives, which were made in the same size as thc origi-
nals. The pages reproduced are p. 3, 4,uR. 12,29 and 30.
Photographs of these fragments are of course far less satis-
factory than would be complete copies of the original session
laws. Lacking such complete originals, however, these leaves in
photographic facsimile may prove of some value to students of
Mississippi legal history.
