ORDER ESTABLISHING A NEW TOWN RAISED NAMED LEXINGTON.

CHAPTER 144.
VOTE APPOINTING A COMMITTEE IN REGARD TO PROPOSALS FOR A
BRIDGE OVER CHARLES RIVER.
UPON READING a Representation & Proposals by John Clark Esqr & Legislative
Company referring to a Bridge over Charles River,                 Records of the
M                                     Council, ix.,
The Council declare they are ready to promote the Obtainment of 259.
so beneficial a Work as the Bridge projected;      And judge the
best Method to bring it to pass is for private Gentlemen to undertake
& Carry on the same, & for their Encouragement that a Toll be forth-
with granted & sett by Act of the General Assembly such as shall be
judged reasonable to be paid for Alan Horse & other Beasts Carts Car-
riages & Coaches;
SAVING to the College their Interest & ReveDue of the Ferry there
to be duly paid from Time to Time with the Advance of Forty Shil-
lings per Annum thereto for the Term of Fifteen Years next after the
Erecting the said Bridge, without any Advance or Increase after the
End of the first fifteen Years
And that in Case the Projection be attempted, & fail, The River &
Harbour to be put in good Condition as at present.
And that the Honourable the Lieutenant Governour the Secretary,
Eliakim Hutchinson & Andrew Belcher Esq with such Gentlemen as
shall be named by the House of Representatives be a Committee to sit
forthwith to receive Propositions & Projections for the Building from
any that are willing to undertake it, And to make their Report thereof
to the next Session of this Court
Concur'd by the Representatives & John Clark Esqr Captain Thomas
Hutchinson, Captain Samuel Phips Mr Stephen Willis & Cpt. Michael
Gill joined in the Affair. [Passed March 20.
