State, on the ,fecond Thurfday of
May, Anno Domn. 1777,

An Ad       p-refcribinig and enjoining an Oath of Fi-
delity to this State;
W H E R E A S this State and the refl of the United States in
America, are becone Free and Independent States, and have by
the unanitnous Declaration of their Delegates, in the Contine;tal
Coiigreft aflembld; publifhed to all the World fuch their Freedom and
Independbnce.,
BE it e~at'ted by the Gov'ernor, Gounicil, and Reprintatives, in
General Court affembled, and by the Authority of th. fame,
That all Members of the General Affembly, and 411
Officers Civil and Military and Freemen of this State, fhall
take ihe following Oath, Vliz.
You A. 13. dofrtear by the Naxe of the everivhng GOD, that yc1
will be true and faithful to the State of Conne ticut, as a free a.nd
independent State, &nd in all Things do )'vur Duty as a good:and faithf.d
Subjert of the faid State; In fupporting the Rights, Liberties, and 1Pri-
vileges of the fame.     So help you GOD.
And be itftirther c'ac7ed Iy the At.,ority afortfazid, That when fid
Oath fhall be admini tered to any of tle People called: Qu.aters, it
fhall be by way of Affifrriation ; and that no Perfoa  hall execute
any Office, Civil or Military, or give their Vote or Suffrage for tihe
fame, after the firft Day of Septienber ne.U, unlef& fuch Pcrfon oihall
have firft taken faid Oath, if thereto required by proper Authority :
And it lhall be the Duty of the Auth6ritk adniinifteyiig fuch Oat'h,
to give a Certificate thereof ; and flie Names of the Perfons to Whom
the fame hath been adminiftered flball be enrolled in the Town-
Clerk's Office in the fame Manner is the Names of Ffeemen are
enrolled.
