Court or Affembly of the State
of Conneficut, in New-England, in
America ; holden at New-Haven,
in faid State, on the fecond Thurf-
day of Odober, .nno Domini, 17 76.
fTf   HE R EA S GEORGE tbe 7ird, Knvg ofGreat-
Britain, hath un;,-flly levied Wiar againji this and the
other United States of A ncrica, declared them out of his Pro-
tegtion, and abdic,,ted the Government of this State, whereby
the good People of this State are abfolvdfrom their llegi-
ance and Szebjegtion to the Crown of Great-Britain.    And
wberee the Reprefentatives of the faid United States in Gen-
era! Con grjfs qembled, have publifthed and declared that thefi
Uiited States are, and of'Rigbt ought to be free and indepen-
dent States, and that they are abfolved from all Allegiance
to the Britiflh Crown.
-     E   S 0 L V E D by this Affembly, That they approve of
the Declaration of Independence publifled by faid Con-
f   grel's, and that this Colony ji, and of Righit ought to be,
a Free and independent State, and the ilnhabitant there-
of are abfolved from all Allegiance to the Br:-i:7 Crown, and all
-politicl Co/ne6tions between them and the King of Grea:-Brit,:iu,
is, and ought to be tot:lly defolhed.
,And be it Encded 'v the Coverncr, Cou;:cil, and R.'p;Lfenti tiv:, in
Gencral Court aj72'vblod, and by t.e itlbrrity of the fJiwe, That the
Form of Civil Government in this State fliall continue to be as
eftabliflfed bf Charte r received from CHILRLES the Second, King
of England, 11o 1ir as an Adherence to the fame will be confiftent
with ain abiblute Independence of this State on the Crown of Great-
Britai;.' ; and that .ll Ofliccrs, Civil and Military, herctofore ap-
pointed by this State, continue in the Execution of their feveral
Offices, and the Laws of t!is State Ihall continue in Force until
