Statements in relation to thle proceedings of
  Friends in England in aid of the elorts for
  the Abolition of Slavery; also, some facts
  respecting the measures taken           by Members
  of said Society in England and America, for
  promoting the Abolition of the Slave Trade
  and Slavery.



  The following article is from the ' Friendly Visitant,' of
fourth month, 1837, a periodical published by Joseph Tallcot, a
member of the Society of Friends, of Skaneateles, N. Y. It
is commended to the serious consideration of members of the
Society in this country
      QUERIES IN RELATION TO SLAVERY.
   It appearing by the epistles from the Yeqrly leeting of Lon-
don, that Friends in that country have taken an active part in the
late successful e forts for the purpose of abolishing Slavery in the
British Government, and the editor being desirous of knowing
some particulars, proposed several queriesto an intelligent friend
from that countiy, to which the foll'owing answers are received,
and are doubtless correct
DEAR FRIEND,
   The three queries of thy propoundin, are suflicient to afford
matter, by way of reply, to fill a volume; but as I expect thou
preferest concise answers, will endeavor to compress answers as
much as may be consistent with propriety.
   Query lst.-What were the measures pursued by Friends in
 England, in endeavoring to abolish the Slave trade and Slavery ?
   Perhaps it may be as well to divide this question into two parts;
 and first, as to what the Society of Friends did in its collective ca-
 pacity. It appears the Yearly Meeting's first minute on this
 suject, was 110 years back, and in its annual printed epistle,
