No. 1.-Resolution declining to interpose to delay the Execution of
the Sentence of the Court pronounced upon certain Prisoners for
Crimes committed at Harpers Ferry.
Adopted December 7, 1859.
Whereas the circuit court of the county of Jefferson, in Preamble.
the exercise of its judicial functions, hath condemned cer-
tain persons to be executed on the tiixteenth day or the
present month, for treason, murder and other crimes; and
it having been provided by law, that the governor shall
.not grant a pardon to any person convicted of treason
against the commonwealth, except with the consent of the
general assembly, declared by joint resolution; and the
governor having informed the legislature that he will not
interfere with the sentence of the court, except in accord-
ance with legislative action: Therefore,
Resolved by the general assembly, that the said Scn-rualtonter.

authority of this legislature is deemed necessary or proper
to delay the execution of the sentence of the court pro-
nounced upon said persons.
