enacted so as to read as follows :

may be done by or before a notary public, or a commis-
sioner appointed by the governor, or by a court, or the
clerk of any court; or in case of a survey directed by a
court in a cause therein pending, by or before the surveyor

country authorized by its laws to administer an oath, and
shall be deemed duly authenticated if it be subscribed by
such officer, and there be annexed to it a certificate of the
clerk or other officer of a court of record of such state or
country, under an official seal, verifying the genuineness of
the signature of' the first mentioned officer, and his au-
thority to administer an oath.
Commencement  2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
CHAr. 41.-An ACT to repeal section 3 of chapter 85 of the Code.
Passed Mlarch 26, 1860.
Code, p. 387.  1. Be it enacted by the general assembly, that section
three of chapter eighty-five of the Code be and the same
is hereby repealed.
Commencement  2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
CHAP. 42.-An ACT to amend the act passed March 17, 1856,
entitled an act to amend the 24th, 25th, 26th, 27th and 28th sec-
tions of chapter 192 of the Code of Virginia, so as more effectu-
ally to prevent the Escape of Slaves.
Passed February 25, 1860.
