CUAP. 241.-An ACT exempting citizens of Lynchhurg from serving on juries
in the courts of Campbell county In civil causes,
Passed January 14, 1856.
Ctizens of    1. Be It enacted by the general assembly, that all persons, who reside within
Lynchburg    the corporation of the city of Lynchburg, shall be exempt from serving oi juries
exempt from  in civil causes in die circuit and connty courts of Campbell. And the citizens of

CHAP. 242.-An ACT authorizing the erection of a new court4house in tie city
of Alexnndria.
Passed February 25,1850.
Power to sell  1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, that the county court of
court.house.  Alexandria county, with the concurrence of tile city council of Alexandria, shall
be and they are hereby authorized to sell the court.house of said county, with
the acre of ground attached thereto, in such manner and saubdivisions and on
such terms as the said court may decree most expedient; and that the governor
be empowered to convey the same to de purchaser or purchasers: provided,
that such sales shell be made by auction to tho highest bidder and that not less
than one month's notice thereof be given by advertisement in the newspapers

be summoned, order of sale shall be mado, the said county court of Alexandria shall cause an
order to be entered, summoning the justices of said cointy to attend at some
subsequent court day. to consider ilte propriety of said sale : and sich order (f

present, and concur therein.
roceeds applied  2. The proceeds of such sales shall be applied, under tile joint direction of
to new court- tle said court and council, to tile erection and furnishing of a new court-houso
house,       for the said county, with suitable accommodations for tile circuit and couty
Surplus divided courts and their clerks' offices, upon tie narket square of said city ; nd should
between county there be any surplus of such proceeds, the same shall be equally divided between
end ctty.    tile said county and city; and any deficiency shall be made up by tih said city
council; to be repaid out of the proceeds of the sale of so much of the jail lot
as is not embraced inl the present enclosure of the jail yard, and which ittay be
necessary to make up such deficiency.

CHar. 943.-An ACT to incorporate tile commissioners of the sinking fund
of tile city of Alexandria.
Passed Alarch 1, 1856.
Commissioners  1. Be it enacted by the general assembly, that the commissioners of the sink.
of sinking fund ing fund of tile city of Alexandria, and their successors, be and they are hereby
Incorporated.  made a corporation by the name of The Commissioners of the Sinking Fund of
the City of Alexandria; and as suel, shall have and exercise such powers as
may lie necessary to enable them to carry out the olhject of this act.

CHaP. 244.-An ACT to amend tile charter of the town of Fredericksburg.
Passed February -27, 1850.
Who to vote for  1. le it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia. that at nl elections here-

officers,    of Fredericksburg, every whilto iale citizen of tile coinionweith, wiho shall
have resided in said town twelve months next preceding the election at which he
may offeor to vote, and shall be otherwise qualified to vote for members of tile
general assembly, shall be entitled to vote at such elections, and no other person
whatsoever.

elected by the  poration officers, viz: Ihe chamberlin, coin missioier of the revenue, collector
people.      of taxes and clerk of the market, shall be elected by tile qualified voters of said
town, at the times and places and it the niatner that the members of the com.
moon council of said town shall be elected.
