CuAP. 82.-An ACT changing the time of holding the hustings court in the
town of Danville.
[Passed January 20, 1842.]
ilostings court of  1. Be it enacted by the general assembly, That the hustings court
Danville when to of the town of Danville shall hereafter be held on the second Thurs-
be heul.
Process, noticos, day in each month, instead of the time now required by law. And
Sc.          nothing herein contained shall operate to discontinue or invalidate
any process issued, or any recognizance taken, or notice given be-
fore the commencement of this act; but every such process, recog-
nizance, and notice given, taken or returnable to any term of said
court, which, as the law now is, would have commenced after the pas-
sage of this act, shall be construed and held, and shall in like man-
ner avail, as if given, taken or returnable to the terms substituted
therefor by the provisions of this act.
Comnencenent.  2. This act shall be in force from the passing thereof.
CHAr. 83.-An ACT extending the jurisdiction of' the hustingv, court of
Petersburg.

Jurisdiction of  1. Be it enacted by the general assembly, That hereafter the hus..
ling colurt he- tings court of the town of Petersburg shall have jurisdiction to hear
tended,      and determine all actions, suits, complaints or motions which may be
brought, inistituted or made therein, when the subject in controversy
shall exceed in amount or value the sum of twenty dollars, and the
defendant or defendants, or either of them, shall be a resident citizen
or citizens of tile said town of Petersburg, or in which the cause of
action, suit, comphait or motion slall have arisen within the said
town of Petersburg.
Counncaccinent.  2. This act shall be in force from the passing thereof.

Warrant conve-  1. Be it enarted by the general assembly, That whenever a justice
daynn ,oracetigi of the peace for this commonwealth shall issue his warrant for coil-
veiling a court of oyer and terminer for the trial of a slave charged
with felony, such justice shall fix a day certain, to be named in the
warrant, for the meeting of the said court: Provided, The day so fixed
1)e not less than five nor more than ten days after the date of the said
warrant.
Sheriff to notify  2. Be it further enacted, That hereafter when a slave is arrested

attornoy  i and to be tried for any oflence punishable by death, it shall be tile
duty of the sheriff or sergeant to furnish the commonwealth's attor-
Dutyof attouncy. ney with a copy of the warrant convening the court; and lie shall
thereupon, without delay, file an information against the offender, pro-
perly charging him with the crime for which he has been arrested,
upon which information the prisoner shall be tried.
Dlfi'cts in war-  3. And be it further enacted, That in such cases hereafter no pro-
rant hiot to arrest
prosecution,  secution shall be arrested for any merely formal defect in the warrant
convening the court.
Cometnncement.  4. This act shall be force from the first day of July next.
