an extra allowance made him by the county court of said county for
services rendered by him, growing out of the late organization of
said county.
Commencement.  2. This act shall be in force from the passing thereof.
CGA'. 157.-An ACT to refund to Emory and Henry college a sum of money
for taxes on land erroneously charged on the same.

Taxes refunded  1. Be it enacted by the general assembly, That the auditor of pub-

warrant on the treasury in favour of the trustees of Emory and Ilenry
college for the sunm of forty-four dollars and sixty-three cents, being
the amount paid into the treasury for taxes on the land belonging to
said institution for the years eighteen hundred and thirty-seven, eigh-
teen hundred and thirty-eight, eighteen hundred and thirty-nine, and
eighteen hundred and forty, inclusive, erroneously charged to said
trustees.
Commencement.  2. This act shall be in force from the passing thereof.

ling, Thomas G. Peachy and Robert Saunders.

tion to the aforesaid individuals for their attendance before the
committee for lunatic asylums; and the auditor is directed to deliver
the aforesaid warrants to the above individuals, or their order; and
the treasurer is hereby required to pay the several amounts hereby
appropriated, out of any money in the treasury not otherwise appro-
priated.

]'reamble.     Whereas it is represented to the general assembly that Jacob, a
slave, the property of Bryan Lester, was condemned to be executed
by the county court of Mecklenburg, on the eighteenth day of July,
eighteen hundred and forty, and has since been reprieved by the exe-
cutive, for sale and transportation, according to law; but that said
court in ascertaining the value of said slave, did not conform to the
provisions of the act, entitled an act providing for the payment of
slaves condemned to death or transportation, passed Alarch the four-
teenth, eighteen hundred and forty; that in consequence of which
non-conformity to said act, the auditor refuses to issue his warrant for
such valuation ; and the owner, or those claiming under him, are un-
able to receive compensation for said slave : Therefore,
