CnAP. 1.-An ACT imposing taxes for the support of government.
[Passed Mach 15, 18-11.]
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly, That tile public taxes for Taxes for 1841.
the year eighteen hundred and forty.one shall be as foltows: Oil lands, on lands.
(except such as are exempted by law from taxation,) for every hun-
dred dollars value thereof, (agreeably to the assessment of lands made
pursuant to the act providing for the re-assessment of lands in this com-
monwealth, passed March the twenty-fourth eighteen hundred and
thirty-eight, and the act, entitled  all act to amend the act, entitled
fan act providing for the re-assessment of lands in this common-
wealth,'  passed March the first, eighteen hundred and thirty-nine,)
twelve and a half cents; for all houses and lots in any city, borough Hiouses and lots
or town, (except such as are exempted hy law from taxation,) three in towns.

for all houses and lots in any city, borough or town, (except such as
are exempted by law from taxation,) improved and not rented or oc-
cupied, and for all unimproved lots as aforesaid, twelve and a half
cents for every hundred dollars value thereof, agreeably to the above
cited acts, providing for a re-assessment of lands in this common-
wealth ; for every slave above the age of twelve years, (except such as slaves.
have been or may be exempted, in consequence of age or infirmity,
by the respective county and corporation courts,) forty cents; for iorse.
every stallion or jackass, twice tile price at which such stallion or jack-
ass covers a mare by the season ; and wlen tile services of such stal-
lion or jackass is charged for, not in money, but in provisions, or
other commodities of value, then twice the alternative value of such
property in money, such value to be fixed by the commissioner of tile
revenue : Provided, That not less than six dollars be paid on every
stallion or jackass let to mares; for all other horses, inares, asses,
mnules and colts, twelve and a half cents each ; for every riding or plea- Carriages.

longing thereto, one and a fourth per centum o1 tile value thereof, to
be ascertained by tile commissioner of the revenue in the manner pre-
scribed by law: Provided, That not less than two dollars shall be
paid on each four wheel riding or pleasure carriage and harness; and
not less than three dollars oil each stage coach and harness; al'd not
less than one dollar on each jersey wagon and carryall and harness;
and not less than filly cents on each two wheel riding or pleasure car-
riage and harness.
