signs, And so soon as said town shall be so laid out and marked,
it shall be considered and used as a public street of said town, as
if it had been made in the original plan thereof.

CHAP. 175.-An ACT concerning the town of Lexington and the Dragon
Swamp canal.

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly, That it shall be lawful Trustees or t....

office, to levy such taxes upon the property and citizens of said to levy talus,

thereof; which taxes may be imposed upon all or such part of the stjects oi txa-
subjects of taxation as to said trustees may seem equitable and
just, as are now imposed by the general assembly of this common-
wealth for the support of government.
2. And be it fiirther enacted, That the Dragon Swamp compa-'ru llowed the

of wood four cents; on every thousand feet of plank, scantling or
other sawed timber, thirty-five cents ; on every thousand sawed
shingles, ten cents; and on every thousand hewed shingles fifteen
cents.

1. Be it enacted by the gencral assembl/I, That the act, emtitled Act conoerni,n
an act concerning the town of New Market in the county of ..tr..f Nwar-
Shenandoah, passed January the thirteenth, eighteen hundred and
thirty-six, shall be and the same is hereby repealed.
2. And be it further tnacted, That Samnuel Tidier, Samuel G. 'ir,,t.
Ilankle, Patrick M'Manus, Joseph It. Sibert, Jonathan M'Damiiel,
Jacob Summers and John D. Zirkle, shall be and they are hereby
appointed trustees for said town, a majority of whmu shall consti-
tute a board for the transaction of business under the authority of
this act.
3. And be it further enacted, That the said trustees and their Oll~hoftrultems.
successors in office, before entering upon the duties of their office,
shall make oath or solemn affirmation before some justice of the
peace for the county of Shenandoah, that they will faithfully and
impartially execute the duties of their office, to the best of their
skill and judgment. The said trustees shall, on the first Monday ,rt,,,, how

notice being previously given in writing at several piblic places in
said town,) elect seven fit and able men being freeholders and in-
habitants of said town, as trustees thereof to supply the place of
the trustees hereby appointed, who nevertheless having the q1ualifi-
cation aforesaid, shall be eligible to election, to be made by all the
housekeepers and freeholders within the limits of the said town,
and who shall take office from the lay of their election, and whose
duty it shall be annually thereafter, at the same time to hold an
