to the removal of himself and his wife Peggy out of the common.
wealth, the said Soipio Lucas and his said wife be, and they are
hereby allowed to reside in the said county of Rockbridge, unmo.
lested, for the term of two years, but no longer : and if at any time
within that period, the county court of ltockbridge shall see cause
to order the said Scipio Lucas and his said wife, or either of them,
to depart the commonwealth, they shall have full power so to order,
and thenceforth the leave of residence hereby granted shall cease.
2. This act shall be in force from and after the passing thereof. Commencement.
Ct'p. 21,.-An ACT concerning Margaret, snmetimes called Margaret Moss,
a ftee woman of colour.

Whereas, it appears to the general assembly that Margaret, some- Preamblo.
times calledl Margaret Moss, who is advanced in life andl never had
children, has lately been emancipated by Thomas Griflin of the
county of York, upon condition that the said Margaret should re-
main in the service of the family of her late master, until by her
annual hire, the consideration of her emancipation should be paid;
that the said Margaret is now in the service of the fimily of tile
said Griflin, in fulfilment of the condition aforesaid, and that tIhe
time of seven years is requisite, at the hire agreed upon, to enable
the said Margaret to comply with the condition upon which her
emancipation was granted :
I. Be it therefore enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, MInrgret 5Ios, to

that the said Margaret, sonetines called Margaret Moss, shall be, ,,,ted L,,o.
and sile is he'reby permitted to remain as a free person, in the family
and service of the said Thomas Grillin, within this commonwealth
for the term of seven years, but no longer: Provided, That if within
the said seven years, the said Margaret shall be convicted by the
verdict of a jury, or the judgment of a court of record, of any of-
fence against the laws of this commonwealth, the privilege herein
grantedM shall cease and determine from the time of such conviction.

CnAr. 215.-An ACT allowing Dick Skurry, a free man of colour, to remain
in the commonwealth.

1. Be it enacted by the gtncral assonblj of Virginia, That Dick Dick 8kurry a!.
Skurry, a man of colour, emancipated by Jn Skurry of the county lowed to, id,
of Amelia, shall be, and he is hereby permitted to remain as a free
man within this commonwealth, and to reside in the said county of
Amelia: Provided, That if the said Dick Skurry shall hereafter
be convicted by the verdict of a jury, or the judgment of a court,
of any offence against the laws of this common wealthi, tile privilege
hereby granted shall thenceforth cease and determine.
2. This act shall be in force from and after the passage thereof. Commnencement.
