CIHAP. 201.-An ACT concerning John G. Joynes.

Whereas, it is represented to the general assembly by John G. Preamble.
Joynes, of the county of Accomack, that at a meeting of the over-
seers of the poor of said county, on the fourth day of March,'eigh-
teen hundred and twcnty-six, ai order was made that they would
proceed to sell of the free negroes residing therein, who had been
emancipated since fhe first day of' May, eighteen hundred and six,
and had remained within the commonwealth more than twelve months
after their right to freedom had accrued, one of said negroes, in
each district in the county, in each succeeding month; that under
that order, a certain free negro named Jim, alits James Outten, was
apprehended and sold, and purchased by a certain Littleton P. Ien-
derson, for the sum of fifty dollars, which sum was paid by him to
the said Joynes, as one of the overseers of the poor, who promptly
paid the same into the treasury for the benefit of the literary fund ;
subsequent to which, permission was granted by the county court of
Accomack to said Outten, to institute a suit in formia pauperis
against the said Littleton P. lenderson, for the recovery of his free-
dom, which suit terminated in favor of said Outten; and a judg-
ment was afterwards recovered by tIe sail Littleton P. Henderson
against the said Joynes, for the amount of the purchase money
aforesaid and( costs, amounting in the whole to lie stun of one hun-
dred and seventeen dollars and forty-five cents; and the said Joynes
having petitioned the legislature that an act may pass directing the
said sunt to be refunded to him : Therefore,
I. Be it enacted by the general assembly, That the second audi- Anount refunded

on the treasury, in fivor of John G. Joynes for the said sum of one
hundred and seventeen dollars and forty-five cents, to be paid to him
or his representatives, out of any money in the literary fund not
otherwise appropriated.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.          Commencement.
CHAP. 202.-An ACT concern~ng George W. Hunter and others.

a warrant on the treasury, to be paid out of any money therein not oilior,.
otherwise appropriated, in favor of George AV. Hunter, Robert Rat-
cliffe, James Coleman, Thomas It. Love and W. S. Daniel, securi-
ties for John Moss, deceased, late deputy sheriff of Fairfax county,
for the sum of two hundred and forty dollars and fifty-seven cents,
the amount of damages on a judgment recovered against them by
John W. Ashton, sheriff of said county, as securities aforesaid, the
same being a part of the daniages recovered by the commonwealth
against the said Ashton, upon a judgment for the revenue taxes of
eighteen hundred and thirty-two; which said judgment has been
satisfied to the commonwealth by said Ashton, and also by the said
securities to him.
2. Be it further enacted, That the second auditor shall, in like Fine refunded.

recovered against John W. Ashton, sheriff of Fairfax, and the
