is bona fide hold by him in virtueof some duly recorded will or deed,
in trust for some person or persons not voting at the meeting upon
that or any other stock ; and moreover, that such stock is not held by
him, by means of any transibr, contrived or designed to evade tile pro-
visions of tile aforesaid aet, regolating the number of votes to be
given by tile stockholders respectively, or to give to himself or any
other, f greater number of votes than he is fairly entitled to under

by proxy, it shall he the duty of the president and directors of the
said bank, from time to time, to furnish to the stockholders forms
for the appointment of proxies, with tile proper form of the oath
required, amnexed thereto. Secondhy-At the annual election of
itow many direc- directors, not more than four of the directors then iii office, by ap-

YOd.          Whereas, it may be deened expedient by the general assembly to
provide by law that after the first day of June, in tie year eighteen
hundred and forty-two, when the charters of the other banks in this
conmonwealth will expire, notes of so small a denomnination as
those now allowed, shalI not be issued by the said hanks, tin  it
inighit be desirable thiat such a provision, if adopted, shoil he ge-
neral in its application to all banks within the coinnmonwealth:
Power reerve.4 to Therefore, the general assembly doth reserve to itseif, and shall

eighteen hundred and forty-two, the Merchants and Mechanics
bank aforesaid , shall issue no notes of smaller denomination than
the other banks for the time being in this commnweahlt shall be
authorized to issue.
Commencement.  3. This act shall commence and Ie in force from and after the
passage thereof. But all its provisions shall cease and lie of no ef-
fect, unless the provision thirdly above enacted, shall he ratified by
the stockholders at the first general meeting which shall be held
after time passage of this act.

acrss Public  or persons shall drive, or cause to be driven, any stage, car-
bridges,    riage, carryall, gigu, vagon, cart or other vehicle used for the con-
voyance of persons, the mail or property of ainy description, whether
tile sanme be empty or otherwise, or shall ride or drive any horse,
mare or mule over any bridge built by authority of the laws of this
commonwealth, or by order of any county court, at a rate or gait
faster than a valk, such person or persons shall, for every such of-
fence, on conviction thereof, be deemed guilty of a wilful trespass,
