Warmant or ~dq- warrant of his agent; but upon the authority of an affidavit tnado
ando w,ho   as aforesaid, it shall be lawfihl for any justice of the peace within
inout.    this commonwealth, and it shall be his duty, upon the application of
such lessor, his heirs or assigns, or the agent of such, to issue a
warrant of distress for the amount so as atbresaid verified, directed
to any sheriff, sergeant, constable or other proper officer of the
county or corporation wherein the leased premises, or any part
EfTct or warrant. thereof, may lie, or the goods to he distrained may be found. Every
warrant so issued, shall have the same force mid eflect as a like
warrant issued by the lessor, his heirs or assigns, would have had in
law prior to the twelfth of March, eighteen hundred and thirty-four
and every distress made without a warrant issued pursuant to the
provisions of this act, shall he null and void.

,,nder te dollar, other officer, shall make sale of any goods or chattels distrained for

give any credit for a sum less than ten dollars; but for all sums less
than ten dollars, owing by such purchaser or purchasers, he shall re-
quiire payment to be made in cash.

Runawayq nppro.  1. Be it enacted by the general assembly, That whensoever'a run-
''ent, 1i. he ad. away slave shall be committed according to law, to the jail of any
county or corporation withel this commonwealth, the keeper thereof
shall forthwith cause an advertisement, with a description of the
runaway's person and wearing apparel, to be set up at the door of
the courthouse of his county or corporation, anti if the owner claim
not within one month thereafter, the said keeper shall cause a like
advertisement to he published, for six weeks, in some public news-
paper published in the city of Richmond, as also in some public
Eupenmo or udver. newspaper most convenient to the jail ; the expense whereof shall
tent, how  be paid by the owner of such slave, or out of the proceeds of sale,
