CIIAPI'ER 20.-Ai act Providing against the abatement of suits at law, or mn-
tions in certain cases.

1. Be it enacted byl the General Assembly, 'That any suit at law Suitsormotlons of

CIIAPTEI 21.--An act to amend the several acts concerning saves, fi'ee negroes
ant Imilattes.
(Passed January 27th, 1829.)
1. Be it enacled by the General Aissenbly, That if any person Persons assisting
shall unlawfully procure, furnish or deliver, or aid, abet or assist .acaPeof slaves,
in procuring, furnishing or delivering, to or for any slave, any let- egilt ofa, misd
ter, permit, pass, or other writin- whatsoever, with intent it so do-
ing to deprive the owner or other person lawfully possessed thereof,
of the use, services and advantages of such slave ; or shall in any
other manner whatever unlawfulfy and wilfully aid, abet or assist
any slave to escape from the possession of his or her owner, or
other person lawfululy entitled thereto, and with intent in so doing,
to deprive the owner, or other person so entitled, (f the use and
benefit of such slave, every person so oefending, his, her or their
aiders and abettors, shall be guilty of a misdemeanor, and being
thereof lawfully convicted, shall be punished by confinement in iow puniuhable.
