CHAPTER I.-An not imposing taxes for the support or government.
(Passed Fcbruary 25th, 1828.]
I. Be. it enacted by the General Assembly, That the public taxes 'faxes for 182.
lbr the year one thousand eight hundred and twenty-eight, shall
he as follows, viz: on lands, for every hundred dollars value On lanuds.
thereof, (agreeably to the act for arranging the counties into dis-
tricts, for the election of Senators, and for equalizing the land-
tax, passed February the eighteenth, one thousand eight hundred
and seventeen; and the act further to amend and explain the
act, entitled, 'an act for arranging the counties into districts,
for the election of Senators, and for equalizing the land-tax, pass-
ed March the first, one thousand eight hundred and nineteen,)
eight cents; for all houses and lots in town, two dollars and three Houses and lots it,
cents for every hundred dollars of yearly rent, or annual value towvns.

or may be exempt, in consequence of age or infirmity, by the re-
spective county and corporation courts,) forty-seven cents; for Hores, asles,&r.
every stallion or jack-ass, twice the price at which such stallion or
jack-ass covers a mare by the season; for all other horses, mares,
asses, mules and cults, tvelve cents; fur every ordinary license, Ordinaries and
, or license to keep a house of private entertainment, seven dollars houses of private
Ifor every hundred dollars of yearly rent, or value thereof, such entertainment.
'.-ent or value to be ascertained by the commissioner of the reve-
nue, in the manner prescr-ibed by law: Provided, That for no such
license a less sum than eighteen dollars shall be paid : And pro-
vided, also, That when any house of' private entertainment shall
be of less value than five hundred dollars, but one-fourth of the
sum aforesaid shall be charged for such license: And provided
I rther, That no tax shall be levied on any house of private en-
tertainment, unless the same shall be situated within some city,
town or borough, or within eight hundred Yards actual distance of
mine public road or highway ; for every riding and pleasure car. arrigles;
