of Robert Ricks of the county of Southamptqn, who was c6n-
denined to de.ath by the said county court, (whose valuation has
been paid tq hisl former owner,) who ellcted his escape from the
iail of' said county, before the day appointed for his execution,
'14 bcen lately retaken, and cannot now be executed agreeably
to his sentence, because of the failure of the court, summoned to
hear proof of his identity, to meet :

1. Be it enacted by the General Ampteably of Vir-inia, That Penalty for entice

shall be convicted belore any justice of the peace, or any county ilmt  all se t

the same to have been so enticed away, or of harboring or employ-
ing any unaway slave or servant, knowing the said slave or 'er-
vant to be runaway, shall, each of them, upon such convictior,, be

than ten dollars, one half for the informer, and the other half for
the literary fund, and, upon fIailure so to pay the same, shall there.
