CHAPTER XXXII.-An act to amend an act, entitled, on act reducing
into one the several acts concerning slaves, free negroes and mulat-
toes.-[Passed February 16th, 1820.]
Preanblc.      Whereas doubts have arisen whether an ofl'ender against the
provisions of the thirtieth section of the  act reducing into oeie
the several acts concerning slaves, free negroes and mulattoes,
passed tho second of March, eighteen hundred and nineteen,
should be tried in the county from which the slave or slaves shall
be removed, as stated in the said section, or in what other county,
if any, such offlnder should be tried ;
Oenders nqainat  I. Be it therefore enacted, by the General .4lssentbll,. That,
theSoth secto of whenever an oftence shall be committed against the provisions ol

&c. where triLable. in any prosecution on behalf of the Commonwealth, shall be tried
in that county from which the slave or slaves shall be taken and
removed, as in the act hefore-nientioied.

CHAPTER XXXII[I-An act to enlarge the Lunatic Hfospital in the city of
Williamsburg.-[Passed February 17th, 1820.)
Preamble.       Wliereas it is represented to this General Assenubly, that many
citizens unfortunately sufbering under mental derangement, are
now conhined in common -jails within this state, because of the
want of accommodation for them in the lunatic hospital, and
whose situation humanity loudly and justly calls upon the Gene-
ral Assembly to relieve;
Addition to the  1. Be it therefore enacted by the General lssembly, That the
Lunatic Hospital court of directors of the hospital in the city of Willi.,amsburg for
authorised.  the maintenance and cure of persons of unsound mind, be, and
they are hereby authorised to contract for, or let to the lowest
bidler, the erection of an additional brick building, containing

they, or a majority of them, are herehy authorised, through their
treasurer, in the manner now prescribed by law, from time to
time, to draw upon the auditor of public accounts for such sums
as may be required for the conpletion of the aforesaid additional
building, not exceeding, in the year eighteen hundred and twenty,
