Gr,enbrier, ih this state, and brought with him sundry slaves
that, at the time of such removal, he was entirely igr'ant of the
la'i s made In relation to (lie importation of slaves into this Coln-
uMuIealth, and thercfore failed to cumply with the provisions
thereof; al the said James Caldwell having petitioned the Le-
gislature to authorize him to retain the said slaves in this state,
