er~nnN.         WTI~IREAS it is repreSentetl to the 'General Assembly,'by
Johni Walker of the county of Botetourt, that, in the tonth elf
May last. he received, by gift from his fither-in-law John Loony,
of said couaitv. a negro wvomarn slave, who had been hrought into
this CuoMMO'wealth from the state or Tennessee in the vear one
thousand eight ho'inhed and SIx ; lhnt the said slave descended to
the nmother of the said Walker's wife, from her father, and was
branodh into this 'tate a few months after the passage of the law
prohibitim, t:,c intrtiuction of slaves, wthout the previous know-
ldle of the exisience of such law ; and, the said Walker having
petitiioed the  , etslature to be authorised by law to retain the
