1. BE it enacted by the General Isselbia, Thut the fine i- i .........

te oF, his said county for the year'eightcen hudrcd and seven-
tecll (which faiilure was occasioned by unavoidable circumstan-
ces, and.the full anaount of the said revenue afterwards paid by
him) shall be, and the same is hereby to all intents and purposes
fully remitted.

WhIIRREAS it appears to the oneral Assembly, that, at the Preamblc.
October session of the Superior Court of Law held for King Wil-
liam county in the year one thousand eight hundred and nine,
one William lloomes a free man of color was arraigned and cm-
victed of felony ; and, on the ninth of the same inivith, errors
were filed in arrest of judg;mnent, and he w11s allowed to give bail
for his appearance on thc irstlda of (he next court, which was
in May ensuing: that Thomas-Adams and ,lack Adams, thro ,h1i
motives of humanity, and heinr over persoiided, bccaune the said
Hoomes hail, each in the sum o one hundred do1llar- ; that thesaid
Hooraes did not appear, and jIudgment was obtained against them
by the Commonwealth, forthe amount ,  foresaid with costs; 1th1t,
by their exertions, they alte,'warilsl)rougbt the sald Iloomes tojis-
tice, who waq sentenced to the. Penitentiary for twelve months ;
1. Be it therefore entcted. That the joldgntnt, exclusive of rtrr-ioir rperg,

named Clhina, and has sinc-q caused the sald Iegro to be icnoved
to his residence in the county ol' ljotdtourt; thlvt at the time of
such removal he was entirelY' ignovant of the laws made in rela-
tion to the importation of slaves into flthi Colmlomlivealth, amd
therefore failed to comply witli the Ii 'ovi.;io|s thiereof'; an1. the
said William Givens hang :etitioned the Le'islature to exenipt
him from any lines, pealte.4 or forfeitures which  lay have re-
sulted from such failure
