.An .act Concerning James a man of colour.
(Pued January 4, 1814.)
Preamble.       T   HEREAS it I.srepresented to thb General Assembly by
V     James a man of colour,- of the town of Petersburg, that,
previous to the passage of the aot, Inhibiting the emanolpation
o' slaves, his master Riehard Williams promised to emancipate
him upon condition that he should pay to his said master the sum
of six humred dollars; which condition has been complied with,
bit the said sum was not fully paid until after the passage ol the
act aforesaid;
'James, when a.  -. Be it therefore enacted, That, when the said Williams shall
manoipated,,to.]have regularly emancipated the said James, he shall be, end is
 ron Within.  heteby permitted to remain as a free person within this com.

same; any law to the contrary notwithstanding.
Commesencqent.  2. -This act shall be in force from the passing thereof.

An Jiet concerning Daniel a man of colour.

Preamble.     WX7HEREAS it is represented to the General Assembly, by
VVDaniel, a man of colour, of the county of Loudoun, that,
in the year one thousand eight hundred and five, his then master
Simon A. Binns executed to the said Daniel a deed of emancipa-
tionu, but tie said deed was not duly recorded before Ihe passage
of the act prohibiting persons of colour thereafter emancipated
from remaining in this commonwealth I
Danielpermitted  t. ie it !.lefore enacted, That the said Daniel be, and he is
to remain as a  hereby premitted to remain as a free person within this com.

IB it enacted by th General Aemby. That Mary, a we-
man of colour, of the county of Stafford, who has lately
been emancipated (and left an adequate support during her lib,)
by her late master, John Hore, shall be and is hereby permitted
to remain as a free person within this commonwealth, and to have
