Gre'gnbrirr, with suhponas for persons and papers; and that the
ptditorof public accounts lquidate and settle their claims, and
grant warrants therefor, wvhich.shall be paid out of any moriey in
tl.e treasury.

v   HEREAS it has been Iound by experience, thaTt the act, Peeambce I

road, contains no adequate provisions for regulating the same;
for remedy whereof,
1. Be it enacted, That every driver of a carriage, whether of Regulation of
pleasure or of burthen, running upon the aforesaid turnpike road, conduct (if dri.

moreover be liable to pay for any damage or injury which may be
sustained by amy.carriage, horse, mule or ox, to be recovmrrd by
warrant, before any justice of the peace, if the damage shall be
less than twenty dollars ; and if the damage exceed that su,,
then the rec.w ry shall lie had in any court of record ;.and if the
offcnler be a slave, lie slall r'eceive on.hisbare back, not less than
ten nor more than thirty Lsheq, at the discrction f thl.e magi5-
trate before whom he may be convicted..

toll of twelve avid one half per centurn advancer on the rate of
tlls already established, unless the said, wiggon or cart runs up-
on wheels, the tyer of which shall not bt. less than four inches
wide in their tread. And if any waggon or cart Phall be drawn
by a team consisting of more than six horses, mules or oxen, then
it-shall be lawful to dtmand and receive. for each horse, mule
or oxen so exceeding six, the same rate of toll its is now allowed
for a horse, mule or ox, on the said turnpike road.
S. And be it enacted, That the agents of- the said turnpike 'Provi'ns otithis
company, shall cause the foregoing provisions to be printed, and act to be posted
put in one or more conspicuous place or places. about their gates in copiu
6r toll houses, at least once in every three months; and shall
moreover cause plain and legible sign posts to he erected and
kept up upon every county road, which goes out of or crosses
the said turnpike road.- . And if the agent of the said company
*ilt to cbmply with the regulations of this act, he shall forfeit Penalty for neg.
