CHAP. LXXXVII.

Passed Januzary 29, 1810  .
W      HEREAS it is represented to the present General Assem-
bly, That Jean Read, widow of Jonathanliead, dec'd. who
died aliout twelve or thirteen years ago at his place of residence in
the county of Charlotte, and state of Virginia, that the said
Jean Read was appointed guardian to his orphans, and removed
a short time afterwards to Dan river, near the dividing-line be-
tween North-Carolina and Viiginia; that the ne&roes Bob,
Jesse, Tom, Farding, Jane, Isbell, Henry, Billy, Bob, Pete',
Nancy, Molly and her two children, Nelly and Jean, are the
property of the orphans of the said Johnathan Read, deceased,
and were hired out in the state of North-Carolina, hy theirguar-
dian, the year the law passed prohibiting slaves from being
brought into the state of Virginia, and who was prevented from
bringing the said slaves back again, until their tme of hire had
expired
I. BE it therefore enacted, That itshall be lawful for the said
Jean Read, widow of Jonathan Read, deceased, and guardian
of the orphans aforesaid, and she ishereby authorised and per.
mitted, without incurring any penalty or forfeiture in conse-
quence thereof, to introduce within tlis commnonweahti the a-
forenamed orphans' slaves; any law to the contrary notwith-
standing.
12. This act shall be in force from the passing thereof.
