CHAPTER LXXV.
An Act to amend the criminal laws of this State for the trial of slaves.
Be it enacted by the General Issembly of the State of Ten-
nessee, That if any negro or mulatto, whether bond or free,
shall make an assault upon any white woman, with intent
to commit a rape, and use violence to her person, such
negro or mulatto, for such offence, shall suffer death by
hanging. Suchnegro or mulatto, if a slave, shall be tried
under the provisions of the laws now in force, regulating
the trial of slaves; but the master or mistress shall have the
right to appeal to the circuit court of the county where the
trial may be had.

CHAPTER LXXVI.
An Act to provide for the calling of a convention.
SEcTIoN 1. Be it enacted by the General dssembly of the
Mode of elec. State of Tennessee, That a convention shall be called, con-

Thursday and Friday in March next, in the same manner,
and under the same rules, regulations and restrictions, that
members of the general assembly are now elected.

the third Monday of May next, for the purpose of revising.

Districts laid  SEc. 3. Be it enacted, That the counties of Carter, Wash-
off.       ington, Sullivan, Greene, Hawkins, Knox, Blount, Mon-
roe, McMinn, Roane, White, Jackson, Warren, Franklin,
Robertson, Montgomery, Henderson, Carroll, Madison,
Hardeman, Fayette, Shelby, and Henry, shall each com-
pose a district, and elect each, one delegate to the con-
vention.
The eounties of Cocke and Sevier, shall compose a dis-
trict, and elect one delegate.
The counties of Rhea and Hamilton, shall compose a
district, and elect one delegate.
'The counties of Bledsoe and Marion, shall compose a
district, and elect one delegate.
The counties of Overton and Fentress, shall compose a
district, and elect one delegate.
