CHAPTER CLX.
an Act to emancipate certain persons therein named.
SECTION 1. Be it enaCtCed by the General Assembly T. Burgess
of the State of Tennessee, That the following per-may emanci.
sons, Phche, Sam, Ben, July, Christiana, and Maria pate certain
being people of colour, slaves to Thomas Burgess, ola
Warren county, be, and by this act are, freed and
emancipated, with all the privileges, rights and ad-
vantages conferred by the laws on freed coloured per-
sons, to all intents and purposes, after the decease of
the said Thouas Burgess. on the following coiditions,
(viz.) that said Thomas Burgess go before the circuit
court-of Warren County, ill opco court, and give his as,
sent to such emancipation, and ioreo er enter into
bond with suflicient security,in a sum to be alprove( of
by said court not under one thousand dollars, payable
to the chairman of said court, conditioned to indemuffy
not only said county of Warren, but all and every
county ini this state, for and on account of said per-
sons of colour, or oither of them, ever hereafter becom-
ing chargeable. in any mainjer, agreeably to the laws
in fnrce in said county of Warren, or any other coun-
ty, in this state.
Suc. 2. Be it enacted, That the aforesaid Phebe, To take fa.
Sam, Ben, July, Christiana, and Maria, assume the mily name,
family name of Eaton.
