shall be a good vouicher in the -settlenent of his ac-
counts.
Prq.isions Si tC. 1.0. Be it enacted. That if the-court of Pleas
not built by and Quarter-Sessions of Bedford comity Mhall fail or
county, and refuse, or not deem it expedient, to lay-atid colledt the
retesof toll. tax,fori.the purposes aforesaid, then, ir4that case, it
shall and may be lawful for Newton andRobert Can-
non, ofrthe county of Williamson, to build said bridge,
at any point. they may think most eliible in the
neighbourhood of Shelbyrille, across said stroaim, at
their own expense;. and shall be allowed- to. demand
and receive not exceeding the following rates of toll.
to wit- foreach-horseand rider, twelve and-one half
cents ; for ea* bI led or loose horse, six and one fourth
cents; for each wagon and team, one dollar: for each
cart, twentydive cents; for each two-wheel carriage
of pleasure, fifty cents; for each four-wheel carriage
of pleasure, one dollar; for each head of cattle, hogs,
and sheep, ooe-cent ;- for each foot passengerfsix-and
one fourth cents: Provided, that the carrier' of the
United States mAil shall pass over said . bridge free
from toll.
Liabililyfor  SEC. 1.1. Belit enacted, That said bridge shall be
da~mage   kept in good'repair at all times, for tliesafety o[those
who may wish to cross the same; and'if anyidamage
may happen to any passenger, in consequence-of-said
bridge being out of repair, said proprietors-shall be
hound to pay the same, to be recovered beforceny
jpirisdiction having cognizance thereof.
