shall be so construed as to require the taler up of

Sc. 1. Be it enacted by thei General ANssembiy a   , u
th~sate a Tennessee, That if any person' or per. be sold tO
sons shall sell any spirituous liquors or other drink  ves.
capable of producing iutoxication, to any slave or
slaves, without a permit .in writing, from the ownier
or, the person having charge of such slave or slaves,
or shall permit any slave or slaves disorderly to as.
semble at hisi her, or-their house or place of residencey
every person.or-persons so offlnding, shall be fined
in a sum not less than five nor more than ten dol.
Jars, to be recovered before any justice of the peace
of the county wherein such offence shall be commit-
ted, one half to the' use of. tle person who shall sue
for the same, the other half to the use of the owner
of s8uch slave or slaves.
Sec. ,. Be it enacted; Thatif any person orpersons  railureto
offending against the provisions of this act, shall fail pay forfeit.
