An act for the benefit of the widows 6f inte,
tates and for other purposes.
Sc. 1. Be it eiaoted by the General 'ssemnbly      .
the state of Tennessee, That where a man shall die wido~w
intestate leaving a widow, it shall be laiwful fo to tAke care
ot personal
nuch widow to take into her possession and care, ll estate
the personal estate of her deceased husband, and
the crop then growing until letters of administration
shall be granted upon such estate, and to male use of
such part of the said crop and of the provisions on
hand as may be necessary for the support of her-
self and family, and also to make use of the slaves,
stock, and plantatioti. utensils. for the purpose of
com pleting, ecuring and selling such crop.
Sec. t. Be it enarted, Thatupon the application  p
of sue hnidow. it shall be the duty of tI)e countyforoneye$
court to appoint three freeholders unconnected wii
her, either by consanguinity or -affiity, who being
first duly sworn tu act impartially, shall set apart so
much of the crop andprovisions on hand, as nay.be
necessary for the support of such tw idow aitd her fa.
mily, until the expiration of one year after the de.
cease of her said husband, which part of said crop
and provisions so set apart, shall be the absolute
property of such wilow for the uses aforesaid, nrrd
shall not be taken into the account of the administra.
tion of the estate of such intestate.
SLc. 3. Be it enacted, That nothing herein con. Way buy.
taluied shall be so construed as to prevent creditors,
wvho may have obtained judgments against such intes.
