CHAPTER     LXXXV.
An    act to    prohibit tie       importation
of slaves into this state for the
 tern  of five 'ears.
Importation  Sec. 1. Be it enacted by the fGeneral Assembly of the
ofslaNes   state of Tennes.ee, '1 hat it (hall not be lawful for atny
prohibited tperfon or perfons to import or bring into this flate, any
a merchiai- flave or flaves for the purpofo of felling 6r difpofing of
them, or'any of them, a's articles of merchandize, within
the faid Rate, provided that this a6t thall not he fo
confirued as to prevent vry perfon or perfons from re.
