PUBLIC WORKS.
AN ACT CONCERNING SLAVE LABOR ON PUBLIC WORKS.

'enin,     SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Asseinbly of the
ter Iora or- State of North-Carolina, and it is hereby enacted by !?':e au-
thority f the sane, That the first section of chapter sixteen
ofan net concerning ' public works, ratified 20th Decem-
ber, 1862, entitled an  Act to authorize the Governor to
employ slave labor in erecting fortifications and other
works, is hereby aiended by inserting tho word male
befbre the word ''slaves and after ihe word  slave  be-
tween the ages of eighteen and forty-five, so that the sec-
tion may read as follows: That the Governor shall have
powor and authority to compel the sorvices of any number
of slaves between the ages of eighteen and fort -five
years, &c.
SmC. 2. Be it further enacted, That this act shall be in
force from an( after its ratification. [Ratified the 12th d7y
of December,J S63.]
REVENUE.
IJAap. 22. AN ACT TO AMEND THE ACT ENTITLED REVENUE RATIFIED
THE I T11 DAY OF FEDRUARY, 1863.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Ame8bl of the
State of North-Carolina, and it is hercby enacted by the au-
Itority <ftheame, That the 15th paragraph under schedule
A, section 70, of said act be amended so tharsaid paragraph
shall read as follows:
On every dollar of nett profit or dividend declared, re-
ceived or due during the year preoeeding the .1st day of
April in each year upon mnon6y or capital invested in man-
ufacturing cotton or woolen goods, leather or articles made
of leather, iron and tobacco, also on every dollar of nett
profit or-dividend on the purchase and sale of any of said
manufactures; also, on.every dollar of profit made by the
purchase and sale of corn, flour, bacon and other provisions,
