IN RANDOLI'l COUNTY.
renaly, &C.  Sixa. 1. .11e it enacted by the General As8embly of thc State
qf North-(throlina, andit 8i hereby eiacted by the authority
qf the ame, That hereafter it shall not be lawful for any firoo
persoii or peisons to cut or fell timber in Big Brush rceck,
between Josialh Chook's mills, in said county, and the Chat-
ham county line, on said stream, under apenity offive dollars
for each and every offence, to be recovered before anly justice
of the peace for said couity, 111)011 (ue conviction thereof,
unless the samno is removed within the space of ten days, to
the use of the person suing for the same; and the person or
persis so offening, gainst the provisions of this act, shall
be further liablo to be indicted, and fined or imprisoned at
the discretion of the court.
As to slave  Six. 2. Be it further enacted, That if any slave or slaves
oteending.  shall offend against tho provisions of this act, by direction of
their master, or other pelrsonl having tile control of them,
upon du11le conviction thereof, the owner Or owners for the
timo being shall foifeit tile suim of' ten dollars for each and
every oifeiice, one-half to the hleneit of the poor of said
county, and the other half to the person suing for the saime,
to be recovered as in section the first.
run.ement.  Si)e. 3. Be it ft'm /her enacted, That, should any slave or
slaves o1end against the ineaninig and intent of this act, of
their own fre vill, upon (ile conviction thereof, as provid-
ed in section first, shall receive not exceeding thirty-nino
lashes, at the disetion of the court.
S   4c . e it further enacted, That this act shall be in
force in niiety days froi and after its ratification. [Ratijied
