WIiMI1NGTON, AS A SITE FOR LIGHT HOUSES AND DIEACONS.

f tk.s same, That the Jurisdiction of this State be and tho
samile is hereby cedcd to the United States, over such
tracts of laud, not exceeding twenty acres, as the United
States have, or nay hereafter purchase, on the eastern side
of the Cape Fear river, about two miles below Wilmington,
for the purpose of crectinu light houses as [nd] beacons
thereon : Pioided, neeertIless, That nothing hercin con-
ined shall he construed to authorize the use of said tracts
for any other purpose than thoso above specified, or to ex-
clude or provent any process, civil or criuninal, issuing from
the courts of this State, from being served or executed with-

C(hap. 2 7. AN ACT CONCEIRNING LITEIRIARY FUND AND COMMON SCHOOLS.
1la it enacted by the General Assembly of the State qf
Aorth-Carolmna, and it is haereby enacted by tiw authority of
the sane, asf/ollows:
tw.ird tf 11Ur-  1. There shall he a IEard of Literature in this State, do-
tauL   i   nominated and called by the name of  Tl'he President and
Directors of the Literary Fund of North-Arolina; and by
that nauto they are incorporated into a body politic and
corporate.
Of whm coin-  2. The goVernor, in virtue of his olice. shall be president
pe.        of the board ; and there shall he three other ieniers there-
of bionnially appointed by the governor, with the advice of
the council of State ; but in case of a vacancy, it shall be
filled by the other members. The board may appoint a
Secretary 10 record their proceedings. The memi bers shall
receive three dollars each per day and their travelling ex-
penses for the time they may be employed in the service,
and the secretary shiall receive throo (lollars for each day
during their actual session ; to be paid out of the literary
fund.
