CHAPTER XXXIV.
AN ACT to amend the 60th section of the 34th chapter of
the Revised Statutes, entitled Crimes and Punish-
tients.
1. .hanges punishment for L-ceping faro bank into whipping.
See. 1. Be it enarted by the General Isstmbly of the State of
North Carolina, and it is hereby enactedby theauthorityoj the same,
That the 60th section of the 34th chapter of the Revised Stat-
utes, be, and the same is hereby so nmended that instead of the
fine and imprisonment in the said section directed to be inipo-
sed on defendants convicted of keeping fIro banks or tables,
hereafter any one who shall be convicted of said offence,
shall receive thirty nine lashes on his bare back, at the pub.
lic wvhipping post, and on paying the costs shall be dirchar-
ged: Providei, that this act shall not extend to any offence
committed before the first day of March next.
[Ratified 29th day of January, 1349.]
