CHAPTER 'LXXX.
A n Act to improve the navigation of Lumber River.
Whereas Lumber River, in its winding course, makes
manIy sinuosities which, if cut off; %Vould greatly shorten its
current and improve its navigation in many other respects,
to effect which.
Sec. 1. Be it enacted by the Gene al Assembly of the
State of North Carolina, and it is hereby cliacted by the
Section authority of the same, That so such as lies between Camp-
bell's Bridge and the ioutbof the JBig Swamp, be divided
into four sections or distflicts; the first Iection to extend
from Campbell's Bridge to the bridge at the Red Banks;
tie second, from  the Red Itinks to Canter's IUridge; sbe
third from Ctfiter's Bridge to the bridge at Lumberton; awl
the fourth section to extend from that bridge tothe mouth of
the Big Swamp.
Sec. 2. Be it Jurther enacted, That each section or
Bounda'iesdistrict shall have its particular boundaries prescribed, in
which hands shall be designated for the improvement of
the navigation of the river in that district. To this end a
lateral line shall be considered as drawn on each side of'the
river, and three miles therefrom, extending from the upper
boundary line of the first section, to the lower boundary
line of the fourth section, whichline shiall form the lateral
boundary of each district. on each side of the river; the up-
per boundary line of the first district shall begin at the in,
tersection of the lateral line on the west side of the river-
with the county line, then with the county line to Camp.
bell's Bridge, then across the river to the mouth of the
White Oak, then along its southern and eastern edge to its
head, then north forty five east to the lateral boundary.-
The lower boundary of the same dis:rJct shall begin at the
intersection of the eastern lateral boundary with the public
road leading from the Red Banks to Fayetteville, then a-
long that road to the Red Banks and beyond them west-
wirardly along the new road to the lateral boundary near
Alexander Watson's on the Back Swamp. This :lower
boundary of the first distriot shall be the upper boundary
of the second district; and its lower boundary shall be a
line intersecting the lateral line on te east side of the Riv-
er, so as to run south twenty five west across at Carter's
