CHAPTE~R XLV.
An Act in addition to the Revised Statutes, entitled mills
and millers.
Sc. 1. Be it enacted by Ihe General .1ssembly, of the
State of North Carolina, and it is hereby enacted by the
authority of the same, That no trial proceeding, now pen-
ding, or which may be hereafter commenced, according to
the provisions of the said Revised Statutes, shall be abated,
by the death of cilher the plaintiff or defendant, or the mar-
riage of any female plaintiff or defendant therein; but every
such suit and procecding shall be held and taken to be with-
in the operation of the first six sections of the Revised Stat-
utes, entitled abatements, in the same manner, and to the
same extent, as if such suits and proceedings had been ex-
pressly named therein.
Sec. 2. And be itfurther enacted, That this act shall be
in force from and after its ratification.
[Ratified 8th of January, 1847.]
CHAPTER XLVI.
An Act to provide for the apprehension of runaway slaves
in the great Dismal Swamp and for other purposes.
Whercus, many slaves belonging to persons residing or
having plantations in the neighborhood of the great dismal Preamble.
swamp, have left tlhe service of their masters and taken re-
fuge in the said swamp, and by the aid of free persons of
color and of white men, have been and are enabled to elude
all attempts to secure their persons and induce them again
under the just authority of their masters, and their consort-
ing with such white men and free persons of color, they
renain setting at lefiauce the power of their masters, cor-
rupting -nd seducing ot her slaves, and by their evil exam-
plcand evil practices, lessenitg the due subordination,, and
